Most of us have found ourselves in trouble, feeling troubled, or in a difficult place at least one time in life. During this time, we can’t seem to see our way out. We start to formulate our own solution to our problems. Then we ask others for advice hoping they can fix it or better yet, agree with the solution we came up with. Next, we post our thoughts on social media anticipating a recommendation from our followers. It’s as if we think any and everyone is capable of resolving our situation except for The One who knows ALL about it. The more we try to fix it, the worse the situation gets. Then we find ourselves tired, upset, weary, busted and disgusted. When all along, all He wants us to do is give it over to Him and trust Him. How many times do we say we’re going to give our problem over to God but never do?
We live in a time where Barnes and Noble and Amazon are flooded with self-help books. YouTube is full of motivational speakers and experts who seem to have the answer. I’m not saying we shouldn’t use these credible resources to improve ourselves in some cases; however somehow, we’ve started putting more faith in people, than in our Lord and Savior.
We must put our faith in God the way Paul did in Acts Chapter 27. He and other prisoners were sailing to Rome. During the sail, their boat was caught in a violent storm that severely damaged their shipped. They went several days without seeing the sun or stars. Can you even imagine? Furthermore, they went many days without food. At this point, they began to lose hope of finding land or being rescued.
However, starting at the 22nd verse, there was a shift. Paul stands up before everyone in the boat and says, “But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’ So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.” ~ Acts 27:22-25 Do you know what? Shortly after this, they were fed until they were satisfied and ultimately the lives of Paul and the prisoners were spared. Paul spoke over their lives, gave encouragement and kept his faith in God. When life throws a punch or two, get out of the “pilot seat” and allow God to be your problem-fixer.
