The scripture tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). It is no secret that what we hear impacts our lives. What goes into your ears travels to your mind and ultimately becomes a part of who you are. That is why in this age of news stories, social media, and YouTube videos, we must be mindful of what we allow to enter our ear gates. Our faith is crucial in this time in our world. As we continue to witness attacks on our beliefs and the fundamental aspects of the Christian faith, we now understand why Jesus said that he prayed that our faith fails not (Luke 22:32). Your faith depends on what you’re hearing. Therefore, make sure that you’re hearing words that build your faith and not tear it down. Listen to words that encourage and not discourage, words that heal and not hurt, words that speak life and not death. In the same scripture in which Jesus said that he prayed for us, he also informed Peter that Satan wanted to destroy him (Luke 22:31). You are no different than Peter; the enemy wants to destroy you and one of the ways in which he tries to do this is through what you hear. So, be mindful of who you allow to speak into your ear because it directly affects your faith. He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches (Revelation 3:22). If you ever find yourself in a place where your faith seems to be wavering, ask yourself, what have I been hearing?
