Whether it was for birthdays, Valentine’s Day, wedding anniversary, or Christmas over the years I have received various kind of gift of great value. However most of the gifts are long forgotten or discarded by now. This means that their value was only significant for a season in my life and as sure as we live seasons will always come and go.
However there is one gift that I received over thirty years ago that has increased in value as I grow older and wiser, and that gift is spoken of in the words of John 3:16-18. 16 “For God so loved the world,[a] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
The value of this gift is having the assurance of knowing that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God who was born and sacrificed so that his blood would settle the debt of my sin. Wow! What a tremendous gift given at the Father’s greatest personal loss. This resulted in gaining millions of sons and daughters who honor the gift by receiving the lamb as their Savior and Lord. Therefore let us rejoice and celebrate the CHRIST in Christmas for he is and was, and forever shall be the greatest gift ever given.
