Our lives have slowed down and our “normalcy” has changed. But what are we doing with our time?  Have we spent more time in prayer and meditation? I have to admit, for a moment, I became distracted. I was distracted with adjusting to working from home, worrying about the safety and the success of my students, giving more care to my children, concerned about family members remaining healthy, and keeping up with the latest news and statistics of the pandemic. I did all of that and much more. But where was my prayer time? I realized that I cannot get distracted by the troubles of the world and I cannot let this pandemic cripple my assignment and my relationship with the Lord.

The Lord revealed to me that it is praying time!  We still have work to do even if it’s from inside of our homes.  You see, we must continue to advance the Kingdom just like Paul. Paul’s journey and assignment was not hindered because of his imprisonment. He didn’t get sidetracked and he didn’t stop praying. Paul says in Philippians 1: 4, “In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completions until the day of Christ Jesus.” So during this time of social distancing, God is still calling us to pray and fulfill our assignments.

I know some of you may be feeling helpless, fearful, stressed, depressed or even grief. But never forget that there’s POWER in prayer. If you do not have a strong prayer life, you can start today. There’s no formality needed. Just simply open your mouth and begin a conversation with God. He’s ready to hear from you. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6 NIV

While I am taking extra measures to keep myself and my family safe, adding masks and gloves will not be the main level of defense that I incorporate. Prayer must be the FIRST and MOST important level of defense in the midst of this pandemic. I truly believe God will hear us and He will heal the land.

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NIV
