“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” James 4:10 ESV
Elevation is one of the most sought after rewards in the Body of Christ. Everybody has the desire to go higher or deeper in their understanding of God and His will for their lives. Yet most fail to understand that elevation has a prerequisite.
The Book of James identifies the prerequisite as “HUMILITY,” or the ability to have a modest or low view of one’s own importance. Paul and Apostle of Jesus Christ confirms this in chapter twelve and verse three of his letter to the church at Rome when he says, “For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think…” Jesus himself directly shared this same sentiments with his disciples as recorded by Matthew in chapter twenty verses twenty-six and twenty-seven, “26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant…”
Wow, what an amazing revelation to receive! In order to go higher we must first go low! So my brothers and sister let us humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God so that he may elevate us in due season.
