“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?” Isaiah 58:6 ESV
You are reading this because you need to be set free. Set free from what you may be asking? In the words of Jonathan McReynolds, set free from the “Cycles of Life.”
Life is like an end ride on a roller coaster; not only do you go round and round over and over again stuck in an endless cycle, but you hit high lows; you’re tossed and turned depending upon where you are on the ride. This is just how the life of a believer is; our faith in Jesus Christ does not exempt us from the ride, and for some, it increases the difficulty of the ride. We would rather ride the kiddie coaster where our cycles are not that severe, and we know that someone (mother/father) is always watching over us, but the fact of the matter is we must grow up.
As we grow in stature, we ought to also grow in faith. This is necessary to turn the cycles of the rollercoaster of life from being a place of fear to being nothing more than a cycle of thrills and excitement that soon comes to an end. How do you get there? Through fasting and praying.
This period of fasting and praying is what the Lord has chosen to break the cycles in your life and finally bring your ride to an end. It shall end those things that caused you anxiety and fear and give you the ability to look unto God during those times when you need him most.
