“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” ~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV
Paul encourages Timothy to hold onto the truth that he knows and trust, and to not let it go. Sometimes as believers, we can let go of the truth when things are going downhill, but our text is telling us to depend on the Word of God. Our surroundings may constantly change, but the Word of God will stay the same. As believers, we should embrace the truth. Growing up my parents would say “the truth will set you free” until growing up I realize the truth is the only way to freedom and that is the Word of God. One reason is, because it gives us clear meaning of God equipping us to do what He has called us to do. However, without knowing the Word of God, you will not really know who you are in Christ or know who Christ really is. The Word introduces us to Him and you need it to grow with Him. The Word of God is so powerful, which is vital for us to survive in this life. This text gives us our “foundation”, in which the Word of God is our foundation. We cannot lead people, we cannot minister to people, and we cannot be who God called us to be without the Word of God. The Word is our foundation and our starting point of Faith. As our text stretch the importance of seeking the word of God more, we should then see transformation over time. I love the illustration about the furniture in every room, because sometimes in our life, when we don’t see the instant transformation, we begin to question God and others also. In order for us to see true change, we have to begin to reflect, study, apply, and live by the word of God daily.
The Word of God is not only our power source, but it is our strength to face different trials. It is hope when we have nothing else. It is our guide while going through the wilderness of this world. We should not just carry the Word of God around, but it should be in us and rooted in us. I could reflect on myself going into ministry somewhat feeling unequipped. As leaders and preachers, we have to be willing to be students the rest of our life. It’s more to learn and it’s more room to grow. I pray that God’s word continue to shine through me and others. I could remember going off to college, I lost a lot of friends along the way, family members, and one thing that remains with me was the Word of God. The Word is very vital for our life. Sometimes when we feel all alone, the Word of God will uplift you and get you out of any situation. The Word of God gives your life, speaking from personal experience. Its times when I felt lonely, stress out, and need advice about certain situations and the Word of God was my guidance and my resource. The Word of God is used for teaching, preaching, reconciliation, correcting, and maturing us spiritually.
2 Timothy it states that the purpose of the Word of God is so that we will be equipped to do good works. This reminds me of Ephesians 2:10 where it says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Thus, putting it together, in order to walk in these good works, we need to be shaped and formed by the Word of God.
